The School of Marxism of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies has a long history. It was first established in 1965 by the Marxism-Leninism Teaching and Research Office of the Guangzhou Foreign language Institute. The school of ideological and political theory was built for professional and disciplinary construction in March 2011, and was renamed as the Marxism Academy in 2005. it was granted the authorization point of the second level Master's degree in Marxist theory and the authorization point of the Master's degree in the first class subject of Marxist theory respectively in 2005 and 2010. The School of Marxism undertakes the teaching task of ideological and political theory course and carries on the graduate student training, the academic research, the discipline construction and the social service at the same time.

Overview:

The School of Marxism is not only the teaching department of ideological and political theory course and the research institution of Marxist theory, but also the supporting unit of Marxist theory. The education and teaching of ideological and political theory course is the main channel and position of propagating the Party's theory, route, principle and policy to college students. The School of Marxism advocates the idea of " unity and harmony, standard and order, and appreciate pragmatism and explore innovation ", pursues the educational aim of "foster virtue through education, enhance our students", and cultivates the compound talents with high ideological quality, solid professional level and strong ability of practice and innovation.     

Faculty:

There are 35 full-time teachers, 9 professors and 20 associate professors among them. Teachers with senior title is in the proportion of 85.3%, and 16 PhDs, 7 masters tutors and 4 doctoral tutors. One professor is awarded as the Famous Teacher of Province's Ideological and Political Course Teaching, and the moderator of Distinguished Teacher Workshop.

Organizational structure:

There are 6 teaching departments: the teaching department of basic principles of Marxism, the teaching department of the outline of Chinese modern history, the teaching department of Mao Zedong thought and the theoretical system of socialism with Chinese characteristics, the teaching department of ideological and moral accomplishment and the teaching of legal foundation, Situation and policy and social practice teaching department, graduate teaching department. The scientific research institutions set up by the school include: the "four-pronged comprehensive strategic" research centers, the comparative ideological and political education research center, the Marxism Sinicization research center, the foreign Marxism research center.

Disciplinary development:

   The subject of Marxism theory of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies started in 2006, and the sub disciplines for master's degree of the ideological and political education was established in the same year. In 2011, it was granted a master's degree in Marxist theory. The sub disciplines in the study of Marxism in China were added in 2013, and the degree in basic principles of Marxism was added in 2017.

Talent cultivation:

The institute advocates the idea of "unity and harmony, standard and order, appreciating pragmatism and exploring innovation " and fosters virtue through education, enhance our students’ well-rounded development. Under the training mode of "Double High" and "Two Strong", the students should obtain the ability of psychology, personality and organization to adapt to the fierce competition in modern society. With comprehensive knowledge and skills to meet the requirements of the development of economic globalization, it has become a high-level, complex, applied and foreign-related senior talent with the integration of foreign language, political theory, academic research and modern management. The graduates have been trained to ensure full and high-quality employment. Some of them have already held important managerial positions and taken up leading posts, demonstrating the solid foundation and excellent ability of our graduates.
